Space Food
Space food
space food is an important factor for the astronauts who go for space journeys and for the astronauts who stay up in space a long duration of time. The space food which consumed by the astronauts are not the same as we all eat on earth. As the human digestive system gets altered after going into space, astronauts have to change their diet accordingly. This food which they eat should be rich in nutrition and proteins. In early days astronauts used to have a packet of meat and chocolate sauce[the normal once used on earth].This meat and chocolate sauce were put in two different toothpaste sized packets.in august 1961 Gherman titov became the first person who experienced space sickness. He even became the first person to vomit in space[in zero gravity atmosphere]. Researchers found that this sickness was caused due to food eaten by the astronauts. After some time, developments took place in space food, for the good health of the astronauts. After this development the size of the menu of the astronomers increased, some of them are butterscotch pudding, apple juice, chicken and vegetables ,toast square etc
Food Processing
The processing of the space food is a difficult task as it needs to meet a lot of requirements to be fit for eating in space.these food must be easy to digest, nutrias, and palatable. These food products also should be easy to pack, unwrap ,and minimal cleavage.
Package
Package is also very important for preservation of space food. These packets have writing instructions and will have a bar-code printed in them. This bar-code is mainly used for managing the diet of the astronaut. The food products produced by the Russian space agency. Generally space food is packed in tins and cans. These have the instructions of how to use. Normally these are heated using electro-resistive methods and Cans and Tins are made to be opened by can openers for consuming food directly and easily from them. Even NASA Space agency produces space food. This food product is generally packed in retort pouches. These pouches are fit into a stable tray which is used to keep the food undisturbed .These trays include straps which are used to attach the trays to an anchor point such as their legs or any wall surface.
